Early detection is the key to survival
We think too much and feel too little. More than machinery we need humanity. More than cleverness we need kindness and gentleness. Without those qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost." ~ Charlie Chaplin |
When a new day begins, dare to smile gratefully.
When there is darkness, dare to be the first to shine a light.
When there is injustice, dare to be the first to condemn it.
When something seems difficult, dare to do it anyway.
When life seems to beat you down, dare to fight back.
When there seems to be no hope, dare to find some.
When you're feeling tired, dare to keep going.
When times are tough, dare to be tougher.
When love hurts you, dare to love again.
When someone is hurting, dare to help them heal.
When another is lost, dare to help them find the way.
When a friend falls, dare to be the first to extend a hand.
When you cross paths with another, dare to make them smile.
When you feel great, dare to help someone else feel great too.
When the day has ended, dare to feel as you've done your best.
Dare to be the best you can At all times, Dare to be!

World AIDS Day
Thanks To: Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
World AIDS Day, observed December 1 every year, is dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection. Government and health officials observe the day, often with speeches or forums on the AIDS topics. Since 1995, the President of the United States has made an official proclamation on World AIDS Day. Governments of other nations have followed suit and issued similar announcements.
AIDS has killed more than 25 million people between 1981 and 2007, and an estimated 33.2 million people worldwide live with HIV as of 2007, making it one of the most destructive epidemics in recorded history. Despite recent, improved access to antiretroviral treatment and care in many regions of the world, the AIDS epidemic claimed an estimated 2 million lives in 2007, of which about 270,000 were children.

*I live in Florida please slow down your boats on the intercoastal waters!*
SAVING MANATEES: Navy researchers have contributed to a set
of automatic gates, equipped with sensors like those on
garage door openers, which are saving manatees in Florida.
Manatees are big marine mammals, as much as 12 feet long,
and weighing up to 1,500 pounds, who live in the warm water
off Florida, but are often killed by boats' propellers or
trapped in man-made structures. But the lock gates at Port
Canaveral in Florida are equipped with 320 sensors which
detect moving underwater objects, such as swimmers or
manatees, and stop the gates from closing. During the time
the Office of Naval Research was testing the sensors, five
of the slow-moving manatees were saved from closing gates.
The sensors rely on acoustic signals, like sonar does, to
detect objects near the gates. A second-generation system
is now in place, protecting these endangered mammals at the port.

Over the past 15 years, "trafficking in persons" and "human trafficking" have been used as umbrella terms for activities involved when someone obtains or holds a person in compelled service.
The United States government considers trafficking in persons to include all of the criminal conduct involved in forced labor and sex trafficking, essentially the conduct involved in reducing or holding someone in compelled service. Under the Trafficking Victims Protection Act as amended (TVPA) and consistent with the United Nations Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children (Palermo Protocol), individuals may be trafficking victims regardless of whether they once consented, participated in a crime as a direct result of being trafficked, were transported into the exploitative situation, or were simply born into a state of servitude. Despite a term that seems to connote movement, at the heart of the phenomenon of trafficking in persons are the many forms of enslavement, not the activities involved in international transportation.
For more information on Human Trafficking, please visit:
Office To Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons
To report a potential victim of Human Trafficking, or if you are a victim yourself or you know someone whom you suspect may be, please call the National Human Trafficking Resource Center (NHTRC) hotline at 1-888-3737-888, or visit: Report a Tip | Polaris Project | Combating Human Trafficking and Modern-day Slavery
